Pre-Event Prep Shifts: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you are ok with getting dirty or paint on (we may be getting crafty or pulling market materials and decor out of storage).
Event Day Shifts: This is an outdoor event, so dress accordingly and comfortably! We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle and sunscreen/hat. Please wear comfortable shoes as you may be doing a lot of standing and walking! -
Volunteers receive a swag bag filled with goodies as a thank you from the San Diego Made team and our vendors. Items in the gift bags are generously donated by our vendors and as we have limited inventory, volunteers receive one thank you gift bag per event, not per shift.
We also provide light refreshments for you to enjoy after your shift.
-
During our events, we have a central location (HQ) for staff and volunteers to access extra event inventory and refreshments. Volunteers are welcome to stores belongings here during their shift, but we recommend keeping any valuables with you.
Volunteer Roles and Responsibilities
We couldn't do it without you!
Our volunteers are the heart of our events. While specific roles may vary depending on the event, here's a glimpse of the opportunities we typically offer
-
Description Volunteers will prepare for the event by staging market items (excluding large/heavy ones) to be loaded into the uHaul, assembling and labeling event signs and posters, organizing materials, taking inventory and packaging grab bags and volunteer goodie bags, preparing VIP bags, and starting interactive art piece and assembling decor. Organizers need to provide materials, a map, VIP bag contents, and confirm the number of grab bags needed.text goes here
-
Event Set Up volunteers help vendors locate their booth locations using a provided event map and directory, and direct them to designated loading and parking areas. They also help set up the SDM information booths, interactive art pieces and workshops, place trash cans and signage and assist with event decor.
-
Info booth volunteers are the event's information experts. They set up the booth, answer guest and vendor questions, provide directions, and distribute materials. Throughout the event, they keep the booth organized and stocked. At the end of the day, they pack everything up and move it to the loading area. Essentially, they're key to a smooth and successful event.
-
Volunteer Roamers are essential to the smooth operation of the event. They act as roving support, assisting guests, vendors, and fellow volunteers. The role involves a lot of walking and standing as Roamers provide breaks for other volunteers and vendors, replenish supplies, maintain clean areas, and troubleshoot issues. They also help with event set-up and tear-down, including specific tasks like managing umbrellas and emptying trash boxes throughout the day. Roamers need to be proactive, communicative, and willing to take on a variety of tasks to ensure a positive event experience for everyone.
-
Our Event Monitors will help ensure a safe and smooth event. These volunteers will wear identifiable vests and act as a point of contact for attendees and other volunteers, observing the event and notifying event staff of any issues that may arise
-
Our photo booths provide attendees with a fun and interactive memory making opportunity. Volunteers at this station will help attendees use the booth, keep the area tidy, monitor any queues, and organize props available for use.
About San Diego Made
-
San Diego Made is an arts organization started by four women in 2014 with the aim of creating opportunities for local creatives and small business owners to meet, gather, and grow, and for people to engage with the creative community and support their local economy. We host markets, pop-ups, workshops, and other events throughout San Diego to help further this cause.
-
In 2018, we launched the San Diego Made Factory, a multi- purpose, creative warehouse near downtown featuring affordable, quality studio rentals, a coworking space with private offices, flex desks, and semi-private desks, a beautiful industrial event space, conference and podcasting rooms available to rent by the hour, and more.Description text goes here

Volunteering helps us keep our event event expenses low, which means we are able to to keep our fees accessible for vendors.
